OUR IDENTITY
Vision
We see cities becoming beacons of hope for the world by the reconciling work of the Holy Spirit moving through our communities.
Mission
To be a community led by God’s Spirit that establishes new realities for the people of our city through the way of Jesus.
Core Values
Our core values are our DNA, they shape how we live and interact with creation around us.
Whole Heart
Worship involves all of life and so we do everything with our whole heart.
“Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord himself and not merely for others.”
Colossians 3:23 TPT
Open Hands
Generosity is not something we have to do, it’s something in which we get to join God in doing.
“For here is the way God loved the world—he gave his only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life.”
John 3:16 TPT
Real People
Transparency makes our relationship with God & others healthier.
“But if we keep living in the pure light that surrounds him, we share unbroken fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, continually cleanses us from all sin.”
1 John 1:7 TPT
Life Together
Community is what we were made for & how we were made to live.
“Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to live alone. I will make a suitable companion to help him.”
Genesis 2:18 GNTD
God Made
Resting in God reminds us that it’s all in His hands and in His time.
“But I trust in you, Lord; I say, 'You are my God.' My times are in your hands.”
Psalms 31:14-15 NIV
Practice Presence
Showing up in real time always communicates love.
“Because of our love for you we were ready to share with you not only the Good News from God but even our own lives. You were so dear to us!”
1 Thessalonians 2:8 GNTD
One Message
Living the message of Jesus because it’s the only one that transcends & saves.
“Our message is that God was making all human beings his friends through Christ. God did not keep an account of their sins, and he has given us the message which tells how he makes them his friends.”
2 Corinthians 5:19 GNTD

Melissa Barrios serves as the Operations Coordinator at Common(s) Church, helping create a welcoming and organized space for our community to gather and grow. With a heart for service and connection, she’s passionate about bringing people together to worship and encounter God. Growing up in church instilled in her a deep value for both giving and receiving in faith-filled community. Melissa is the proud dog mom to our unofficial mascot, Jasper, and loves attending sporting events, playing volleyball, and spending quality time with her family. A San Diego resident for just over two years, she feels blessed to call Common(s) and East Village home. Her favorite verse is Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Ali Stevens serves as the Wellness Coordinator and Administrative Assistant at Common(s) Church. With care and precision, she facilitates access to healing modalities like yoga and sound baths for our congregation, community partners, and neighbors in East Village. She also writes our weekly email newsletter and helps track key church metrics. Ali feels deeply called to support our community in experiencing reconciliation and restoration in God’s presence. Once a staunch atheist and recovering addict, there’s no radical perspective or (mis)adventure she can’t relate to and empathize with. Outside of church life, she enjoys practicing yoga and dance—spaces where creativity and balance come together.
